CABOT FINANCIAL IRELAND
DATA BREACH
FINANCIAL DATA STOLEN

In September 2024, Cabot Financial Ireland had a serous data breach in which 394,000 files, including customer data and their financial data, were stolen by hackers but Cabot only started notifying customers from November 2024 onwards.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In September 2024, 394,000 files, including customer data and their financial data, were stolen by hackers. the full extent is unclear but customers affected received a letter from Cabot Financial advising them to check their bank accounts for any illegal transactions as a result of the data breach. This means bank account details, etc. were included in the data breach.

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?

If you got a letter from Cabot Financial that states your personal data or financial data was stolen then your personal data could be used for fraud, identify theft or used as part of scams (including financial scams or attempts to illegally access your bank accounts)..

WHAT DATA WAS AFFECTED?

Cabot Financial would tell you in your letter what specific data was affect but typical data affected includes name, address, email address, phone number, bank details, loan details, etc. that was illegally accessed, copied and stolen by hackers.

AM I ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION?

If you got the letter from Cabot Financial and you are genuinely angry, annoyed, upset, frustrated, or worried about the data breach, their lack of security, the loss of control of your data or the risk of your data being used for fraud, identity theft or part of a scam, or your bank account being illegally accessed, then you may be entitled to compensation under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

NO WIN - NO FEE

Usually when a person wins their case they don't have to pay any legal fees as the loser typically pays for legal fees. Your case will be taken on a 'no win - no fee' basis so the solicitor and barrister only get paid if you win and you keep 100% of any compensation awarded. The only thing you have to pay is the Stamp Duty which is what the Court charges to start a case (when the legal paperwork is filed with the Court office).
