GDPR COMPENSATION
WHAT HAPPENED?
From December 2020 onwards, Bank of Ireland wrote to over 60,000 customers saying they made a mistake when reporting customers to the Central Credit Register,
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?
The Central Credit Register was set up by the Central Bank of Ireland to establish credit reports and credit ratings or credit scores about customers. When Bank of Ireland incorrectly reported you to the CCR it meant your credit rating and credit score was wrong.
IS MY CREDIT SCORE IMPORTANT?
Yes. Your credit score reflects how trustworthy you are when borrowing money. A false credit score can cause you to be refused a loan, mortgage or remortgage and prevent you from getting credit in the future.

AM I ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION?
If you got the letter from Bank of Ireland and you are upset, worried or annoyed about their mistake then yes you may be entitled to compensation under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
WHAT HAVE BOI DONE ABOUT IT?
Very little. Your letter doesn't say when the mistake was, how long it lasted nor when BOI fixed their mistake. In fact, the letter doesn't offer you anything to make up for their impact on your credit score or any hassle, stress or annoyance over it.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Call or email us and we will connect you with an experienced solicitor and barrister who deals with these cases on a 'no win - no fee' basis.
NO WIN - NO FEE
Usually when a person wins their case they don't have to pay any legal fees. Your case will be taken on a 'no win - no fee' basis so the solicitor and barrister only get paid if you win and you keep 100% of any compensation awarded.
